Located 150 km from Ho chi Minh city and 70 km from Vung Tau city, the Binh Chau Hot Springs of Binh Chau commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province lies right in the middle of the Binh Chau Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve with over 70 visible hot springs at temperate from 40oC đến 80 oC. The underground hot water covers an area of about 1 km2  in which there are many diferrent lakes of hot water streaming out endlessly till today

the Binh Chau Hot Springs were actually discovered in 1928 by a French doctor named Sallet in his medical research of South-Eastern Vietnam, later he published his discovery in the “Indochina Research news” under an article called “Cu Mi”. However, these precious hot springs remained untouch until the early years of the 21st century when the Saigon Binh Chau Resort was completed and put into operation.

The Hot springs have become increasingly popular with both Vietnamese people and foreigners, particularly after the World Tourism Organization voted the Binh Chau Hot-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve as one of the 67 sustainable ecotourism developments among 47 countries worldwide.

Monkey temple in Long Hai

Recently, in their trips to Long Hai, many tourists fancy a drop at at a temple near Long Hai to have a fun time with those lovely monkeys living on Ky Van mountain just behind the temple.

According to a monk, the temple is named Thien Vien Chon Nguyen, but since the monkeys appeared, many people have preferred to call it “Monkey Temple”. Previously, the monkeys lived on the mountain, then some of them came to “visit” the temple, and on some occasions, they were fed by the monks. Later, more and more of them came to the temple to be fed. Today there are nearly 200 monkeys.

Visitors to the temple often bring with them bananas and other fruits to give the monkeys and have a really good time with them. Another factor that attracts visitors to the temple is the exceptional beauty of the surrounding environment, especially the masterpieces of rocks naturally shaped like a Buddha or a huge elephant prostrating itself and a 100 year old Bodhi tree with its roots penetrating the rocks and the caves. All of these have made the temple an interesting and unique place.

Long Tan Cross

The Long Tan Cross is located in a rubber plantation in Long Tan Commune, Long Dat Dist, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The Cross was ecreted by members of the 6th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment on 18 August 1969 as a memorial to those who died during the Battle of Long Tan which took place on 18 August 1966. The Battle of Long Tan was Australia's single most costly engagement of the Vietnam War, with the loss of 18 Australian soldiers.

The original cross was made of wood, hanging on which was a copper plate with the  scultured  words” In memory of those members of D Coy 6 RAR and 3 Tp 1 APC Sqn who gave their lives near this spot during the Battle of Long Tan on 18th August 1966. Erected by 6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Bn 18 Aug 69".

When the war in Vietnam emded in 1975, the original cross was moved to Dong Nai Museum, Bien Hoa City, where it has been displayed till today.

In 2002, the new cross was constructed by The Australian Veterans Vietnam Reconstruction Group (AVVRG) at the initial site where the the original cross stood.

Today, the Long Tan Cross has increasingly become a focal point for many Austalians, particularly for the veterans and servicemen during their pilgrimage back to Vietnam. Every year, on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan and ANZAC day (25 April), hundreds of Australians including many high ranking officials of the Australian Government, namely the Australian Ambassador, the Australian Consul General and others come to attend the memorial service.

Con Dao Prison - Vietnam

Con Dao prison was built on the largest island named Con Lon belonging to the Con Dao archipelago. Because of its isolation from the manland (180 km from Vung Tau), as soon as the French established its colonial regime in Vietnam, they started to built the prison on the island to house and torture Vietnamese political prisoners.

This was the first prison built by the French in Vietnam. In 1954, after French signed the Geneva Treaty to end its colonial rule in Vietnam and entire Indochina, the prison was then handed over to the South Vietnam Government ending 100 years of crime commited by the French colonialist. However, under the new rule of the US backed - South Vietnam Government, the prison was again used with the same primitive purpose to keep Vietnamese patriotic revolutionaries until April 1975 when South Vietnam was completely liberated.

More than one century of existence, Con Dao prison notorious for the so called “Tiger Cages” and “Cow Cages” was considered as a ”hell on earth”. The prison kept over 200,000 patriotic activists, soldiers and revolutionaries including the late chiefs of the Vietnamese Communist Party Le Duan and Nguyen Van Linh, late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, Võ Thị Thắng, former Chairwoman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and especially Vo Thi Sau, a hero of the poor district of Dat Do, Long Dien, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Under the merciless treatment in the prision, nealy 20,000 prisoners heroically died.

After the war, the prison has been several times restored to make it a national historical and revolutionary relic which attracts many visitors. Models of political prisoners, tiger cages and cơ cages have been set up to tell visitors more about the history of the place once known as a “hell on earth”.

Con Dao Island - Vietnam

Situated 97 miles (180 km) from Vung Tau and 124 miles (230 km) from Hồ Chí Minh City, Con Dao Islands are an archipelago consisting of 16 mountainous islands and islets. The total land area reaches 76 km² and the local population is about 5,000. The largest island is named Con Lon or Con Dao, which is the center of all the economic, cultural, political and social activities of the whole archipelago.

Thanks to its advantageous marine routes, Con Dao was known very early by western navigators and explorers, especially from the 15th -16th century when French and British forces  started to colonise Indochina including the Con Dao archipelago of Vietnam.

In 1787, through the Treaty of Versailles Nguyễn Ánh (the future Emperor Gia Long) promised to cede Con Dao to the French. In exchange Louis XVI promised to help Nguyễn Ánh to regain the throne by supplying 1,650 troops and four frigates. The Treaty of Versailles was seen as the first document through which the Nguyen Dynasty agreed to sell (cede) the sovereignty of Da Nang seaport and Con Dao Islands to French

In 1862, the French colonial government established a prison on Con Dao island to house political prisoners. In 1954, the prison was turned over to the South Vietnamese government, who continued to use it for the same purpose until 1975 when South Vietnam was completely liberated.

Today, Con Dao becomes one of the 8 districts of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and a great tourist attraction for both local and foreign visitors who are either interested in its historical relics such as Con Dao prison, Tiger Cages, Cow Cages, Hang Duong Martyrs’ cemetery or its natural beauty of primitive forests, pure sandy beaches, intensive coral reefs and rare species such as dugong (sea cow), dolphins, sea turtles, squirrels, reindeers, deers, wild fowls etc.

The Font Beach (Bai Truoc) of Vung Tau City

Known as the “Face of the city” the Front Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Vung Tau, lying between Big Mountain and Small Mountain. Previously, this beach was also called Coconut Bay because it had many coconut trees and sheltered in the tiny bay of Vung Tau.

The Beach is located in the southwest of the city, therefore it is well placed to wacth the sunset every afternoon. Not far from the shore are plenty of fishing boats peacefully anchored in the little harbour, making this part of the city charming. Unlike the Back Beach (Bai Sau), the Front Beach is not so popular for swimming, however after the sun sets, this is an exiting place with many restaurants, pubs, dance halls, shops and cafes etc.

Museum of Antique Weapons Vung Tau

The Museum of antique weapons (Worldwide Arms Museum) is opened by Mr. Robert Taylor (English)

According to the visitors, this is one of the most worth seeing museums in Vietnam. Imaugurated from the beginning of 2012, the museum exhibits 500 effigies with size of a real person wearing gorgeous uniforms, representing the images of warriors all over the world in different periods; more than 1,200 guns, 1,000 ancient swords with the history and stories in them… In addition, there are very rare collections (such as Dutch antique gun – there are only 2 in the world).

This museum is also appreciated thanks to its logical arrangement in the exhibition space.

The museum is now located at 98 Tran Hung Dao Street, Vung Tau.
